Yellowstone Park: Facts and Fictions

Yellowstone National Park! A place shrouded in mystery and myth. Who knows what is true and what is not? Adrian and I decided that we owed it to the public to confirm and debunk the commonly held beliefs about the world’s first national park.

#1: There are animals all over the place- FACT!

This is me making dinner next to our friendly neighbour-bison. He just hung out and shat everywhere. Super nice guy.

#2: All of the trees are made of wood- FICTION!

This is a petrified tree stump. It’s just one of the many tree-bits that we saw on Specimen Ridge that is, in fact, made of stone. Very good for touching, in my opinion.

#3: You have to watch out for park rangers when hitching rides through the park- FICTION!

This is a picture taken from the back of a ranger vehicle. Note the large gun. The ranger was super chill. He spent the winter volunteering as a fire fighter in Costa Rica. Solid ride.

#4: The Grand Yellowstone Falls- FICTION!

There is no waterfall. But funny story, Adrian drank some not-so-clean water from a river and then he puked everywhere. Including this extremely scenic location.

#5: There are beautiful hot springs throughout the park- FACT!

Not pictured: one of the more beautiful hot springs.

#6: The people in RV’s are all super stuck up- FICTION!

This is a picture taken from the back of Larry and Dee’s RV. That’s Beau, the dog. He’s super chill and soft. We basically adopted grandparents for the morning. Thanks for everything, guys!

#7: The Old Faithful Geyser erupts every 60-90 minutes- FICTION!

Old Faithful erupts only when sweaty backpackers take off their pants for it.

#8: In the back of a pickup truck is by far the best way to see the park- FACT!
Need I say more?

  1. Hi Allie and Adrian! It looks as though the two of you are having a great time. Allie, I love the shot of you in the back of the pick up with the wind in your hair–to me, that encapsulates the spirit of fun, adventure and freedom you are seeking. Take care of yourselves and keep the posts coming–all of us are following your trip with great interest.
    Love, Dad, Susan, P,D,C,G.
